Songket Weave Quilt - Paper Piecing Pattern
This is a digital PDF pattern and tutorial. The download files contain printable FPP (foundation paper piecing) patterns and simple piecing guides to make the Songket Weave Quilt.
This quilt is inspired by the "songket". Songket is a hand-woven fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. It is hand-woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads.
The quilt finishes at 87" x 87". It consists of 9 blocks, each measuring 29" square, arranged in a 3 x 3 array.
The quilt image shown in this listing uses the Willow Hollow fabrics by Kim Diehl, which consist of several darker shades of teal and several lighter shades of teal. I paired these with grey background fabric. You can choose any other colour scheme so long as they consist of a set of darker shades, a set of lighter shades, and a contrasting background.
Fabric Requirements:
- Dark teal fabric: 9 fat quarters
- Light teal fabric: 7 fat quarters
- Grey fabric: 8 yards (assuming 45" width of fabric)
There are three PDF files to be downloaded. They are:
- Block 1 FPP Pattern : Pattern and simple piecing guide to make one Block 1.
- Block 2 FPP Pattern : Pattern and simple piecing guide to make one Block 2.
- Quilt Top Assembly : Assembly guide on how to piece the Blocks 1 and Blocks 2 to form the complete quilt top.
- A good command of sewing, quilting and FPP techniques are needed to complete the blocks and quilt.
- All patterns are full sized. Make sure to print in 100% scale.
